What can I expect for transfer orientation?

Even though transfer students likely participated in a traditional first year student orientation at their prior school, it is still very important to attend Ohio State's transfer student orientation.  At orientation you will receive important information on getting involved, business practices at Ohio State, parking and student life, in addition to registering for your first term.   It is a full day experience so students should plan to be on campus from 8-4.

What should I expect from University Exploration's academic overview and scheduling session?

  • Prior to attending orientation you will have received an email from an exploration advisor with specific steps to prepare for your advising appointment.
    • This email will include an invitation for you to complete our online academic overview through Carmen, the OSU online classroom environment (http://carmen.osu.edu). This overview explains the structure of our program and the information that you will need in order to start building a schedule for the upcoming semester.
    • This email will also describe your transfer credit and how it transferred to Ohio State.
    • You will have received suggestions on what courses you still need to fulfill in this email as well as information on what courses you need to get further evaluated. Below you will find a video explaining how to get transfer credit evaluated. It is recommend you start working on this as soon as possible.

It is imperative that students complete the steps above prior to attending Orientation as they will not be able to schedule their classes if they do not.

On the day of their University Orientation each student will have a scheduled appointment with an exploration advisor between 11:30 and 2:30 PM.  During this 30-minute appointment, you will register with an advisor for the upcoming term.

It is extremely important that students attend the regularly scheduled University Orientation as they will not be able to schedule their classes if they do not.
