How do students feel about starting in Exploration?

When I finally decided to call the Office of Admissions and switch to Exploration, I experienced a mix of both unease and excitement. I was uneasy because, at the time, I was concerned about how others would view me, especially my parents, as undecided. I was excited, however, because I knew that Exploration allowed me to truly take advantage of Ohio State's academic breadth. Instead of confining myself into a set major, I had the opportunity to sign up for a variety of classes that interested me while ensuring I was still on track in meeting my major requirements (when I decided on it).

It was simultaneously exciting and intimidating. I knew I was coming to the perfect place for indecision – a place with limitless opportunities and just about every program I could possibly want. But I also knew it would be on me to somehow choose from all of those opportunities and find a path that was right for me.

Being undecided is why I came to Ohio State. At competing schools I couldn't find a program comparable to OSU's Exploration Program for students who had yet to choose a major. On choosing a major, I've heard, "You have to do it, but you don't have to do it alone". University Exploration equips students with every resource they could possibly want to help them choose.  Being undecided isn't seen as a weakness but, in some ways, a strength: most of my friends freshman year changed their major (sometimes multiple times), while EXP students save the runaround and develop their interests before making a commitment.
